John O’Hara joined Commercial Insurance Consultants 2011 as a senior consultant to focus on new client development, catastrophe management consulting and insurance risk consulting. He brings a very diverse Underwriting and Wholesale Brokerage background carried out over 20 years.
Starting with the Hartford Insurance Company as a mutli-line Commercial Underwriter he moved onto Kemper Insurance Company as a Commercial Underwriting Specialist where he was trained in Highly Protected Risk (HPR). Although this was a multi-line there was a heavy concentration on large sophisticated highly protected property accounts. John spent the next 5 years underwriting for National Brokerage Units as multi-line underwriter specializing in large property. Completed the underwriting segment of his career with Fireman’s Fund as an Executive Underwriter.
This led him to Willis North America wholesale division Stewart Smith and helped start the property unit in the New York office bringing writings from zero to $30,000,000. At Willis North America wholesale division the specialty was in catastrophe exposed accounts nation wide. East Coast Wind, Gulf Coast Wind, California Earthquake, New Madrid Earthquake, Tornado prone Areas such as Tornado Alley and coverage for all National Flood Insurance Program documented flood locations. John placed many large national accounts such as: National Franchises, Hotel Resorts, Real Estate, Real Estate Investment Trust, Manufacturing, Municipalities, Colleges, Airports, Chemical plants, Chemical Storage, Wholesale Supply, Retail Stores, Office Buildings, Builders Risk. Inland Marine and foreclosed and force placed properties for banks. Layered programs, reinsurance, deductible buybacks all purchased in the domestic and foreign markets.
This led John to North Island Facilities where he helped establish a real estate investment trust underwriting program. Aiding in the program design, rates, form development, catastrophe management of limit accumulations and reinsurance. Program writings went to $20,000,000.
John’s specialty clearly is large account catastrophe exposed property accounts which brought him to open his own wholesale brokerage Professional Market Solutions LLC. As President and Chief Operating Officer he again embarked on building new clients and established a book of large property accounts with a heavy emphasis on Real Estate Investment Trusts.
Today John is with Commercial Insurance Consultants offering his considerable expertise to our clients.
